Babies And Children usually enjoy being massaged as much as adults, but will often only keep still for a short space of time. Do not apply lot of pressure at that time instead massage your child gently.
You can use massage lotion, oil, or simple body lotion. Use both hands and gradually add a little more pressure, making more specific contact with the palm, the thumbs, and the fingers.
Experiment to find what feels good to your child. Massage at home is to help the child relax and feel loved, which helps the healing immensely! Keep the intensity of discomfort as low as possible.
Here are some ways, which will help you massage your child
- Starting with the child on their back, gently stroke their face, starting in the middle of the forehead and working out to the temples.
- Stroke across the cheeks from nose to the ears and then from the cheeks down to the chin..
- Stroke up the front of the body and out along the arms.
- Make clockwise circles around the navel using both hands.
- Turn the child on their front and gently stroke their back.
- Gently knead the child’s shoulders.
- Rub down your child’s spine gently,
- Work around the anklebone with your fingertips. Sandwich foot between heels of hand and massage, moving both hands in a circular motion
- Stroke from one foot up the leg, across the sacrum(base of the spine), and back down the other leg. Use light strokes down the body, starting from the top of head right down to the feet.
Massaging time is a wonderful way to connect with your child. However, make sure that you always respond to the child’s receptivity to the massage. Do not proceed if the child is unwilling and do not leave the child in one position for too long.
Keep these points in mind and have a wonderful time massaging your baby.
