Reflexology is an ancient healing art which says that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that communicate to every part, organ and gland in the body.
Earlier in this massage technique the body is divided into ten vertical zones. The zones reflexes on the hands and feet, and when pressure is applied to these “zones” other areas and organs of the body respond.
Today, a reflexology therapist applies acupressure and massage to the ears, hands and feet within these same zones.
Through this massage you receive
- Improved blood circulation
- Detoxification
- Reduced tension
- The body’s ability to heal itself
Thorough research in this field claims that this treatment method can be effective
- Back pain
- Migraines
- Infertility
- Arthritis and many other problems
Treatment:
During a reflexology treatment, the therapist will ask you questions to find out your present physical form. She or he will then apply pressure to the hands and feet – according to a ‘reflexology foot map’. Different spots will, theoretically, have an effect on different internal organs. For example, if he/she presses on spot X on the sole of your foot, healing takes place in, say, internal organ Y.
Tools used for Reflexology:
- Reflexology tools are based on the map that traces the reflexes in the human body. You can buy several popular tools to use at home, including
- Reflexology gloves – to massage the palms
- Reflexology mats – for use in meditation and yoga
- Reflexology socks – a reflexology foot chart printed on a sock
- Reflexology kits – that often include a mix of foot and hand therapies
Reflexology Foot Map:
It is a map showing locations of the reflex points of the feet. The map is colour coded to match the areas of the feet with their associated body parts. Foot reflexology map is fully labeled to show what body part each of the foot regions are associated with.
